One of the things that has always intrigued me about the hard left is their willingness to grant “nationhood” to all and sundry. So postage stamps countries the size of montenegro, slovenia and the like are a okay.
Hell, according to their lights you don’t even have to have a country to be a nation. Hence we have a gazzillion first nations here in Canada, the States and elsewhere in the word. According to them they are all sovereign nations with the ability to negotiate terms with their host country.
The hard left even recognizes peoples that simply do not exist either in the past, in the present, or in the future. Hence we have the Iraqi people, the Afghan people, the Sudanese people. Sorry folks, there ain’t no such thing in these examples. Let’s take the example of the former Yugoslavia. They would have been called Yugoslavs. But if you’d asked a “Yugoslav” what he was/is he would have said I’m a Slovene, Croat, Serb, Bosnian, Albanian, or Macedonian. He never would have answered I’m a Yugoslav.
The hard left likes to criticize Western Imperialism and the pernicious effects of Western Colonialism etc. The irony is the left is engagin in its own form of imperialism and cultural superiority when it “grants’ people nationhood.
Newsflash dudes. In case you haven’t figured it out but peoples and/or nations of the world don’t need your papal imprimatur to call themselves whatever the hell they want to call themselves.
So the left is willing to grant nationhood to EVERYONE and EVERY group under the sun except the Jews.

It is a very convenient position to have. That way the Left can say things Zionism is racism or Israel is guilty of apartheid, war crimes, poisoning wells, harvesting organs and whatever the blood libel of the month is and they can hold their heads high and say hey we’re not anti Semitic which is really, really bad but we are anti Zionist cuz Zionism is evil and needs to be blotted out of history.
Let’s see how this works in practise. For the sake of this post lets take the August 19, 2009 submission of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to the Canadian Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Antisemitism which appears on the “Seriously Free Speech” blog site. It is a very interesting submission not only for what it does include as what it does not.
The definition of Antisemitism is a crucial aspect of our submission. Antisemitism is hostility toward or prejudice against Jewish people as a religious, ethnic, or racial group, which can range from individual hatred to institutionalized, violent persecution.
So, according to the dudes who deliver my mail, I and my fellow Jews are a religious, ethnic or racial group.
I had no idea that any self respecting person or group still used the word “race” anymore. The word is redolent of all the racial miamsma that was floating around in the 19th and 20th centuries. I would have thought that the end of World War II would have put paid to the idea that Jews are a race. But not in the opinion of the dudes who deliever Canada’s mail.
According to CUPW, I and my fellow Jews are an ethnic group. I have always been uncomfortable with the use of the word ethnic relying as it does on the discredited concept of “race”
And last but not least, according to CUPW, I and my fellow Jews are a religious group. This last is at least partially true.
So many thanks to the brothers and sisters of CUPW for telling me who I am. I never would have known otherwise.
So that is what there. But have you notice the word that is not there?
That word is NATION. In the official view of Canada’s mailmen, Jews are NOT a nation and therefore do not have any of the rights and perogatives that occur to those who are a nation.
This denial of Jewish nationhood is critical for the leftist case is based on this denial. Everything flows from this denial. Zionism, the national liberation movement of the Jewish People is racist because there is no such thing as a Jewish People. Since Zionism is illegitimate, Israel, all that is; all that it has accomplished is moot. A Jew free Palestine is the only moral option.
The Canadian Union of Postal Workers strongly opposes Antisemitism as it is contrary to the Union’s principles of solidarity and equality. We believe that all forms of harassment, including sexism, racism, homophobia, and Antisemitism create tension and division.
Continue to demand that Israel immediately end all military assaults and abide completely by the most recent and unanimous Security Council resolution calling on them to do so.
Call for and actively work towards an end to the suicide bombings, military assaults and other acts of violence that take the lives of innocent people and demand that the Israeli West Bank barrier be immediately torn down.
Demand that the Israeli Government immediately withdraw from the occupied territories and abide by UN resolution 242.
Support the international campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions until Israel meets its obligation to recognize the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination and fully complies with the precepts of international law including the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194.
So, since the nation of Israel is ipso facto illegal, then all measures against are legitimate and since they’re based on opposing Zionism, they are not, by definition, anti Semitic.
Therefore it’s logical that Israel has no right to defend itself. It should dismantle the separation barrier to make it easier for Palestinians terrorists to kill Israelis (after all, according to Mohammed ElMasry every Israeli over 18 if fair game to be killed).
Not only that but since the existence of the state is illegitimate since Jews are not a nation and have no right to self determination, it only makes sense that Israel should commit suide by allowing millions of non Jews to “return” and form a non Jewish majority.
That way Jews will return to their natural position of weak, homeless victims. But hey, Canada’s mail men will still recognize Jews as a religion.
